Shawdesh Desk: The High Court on Sunday asked two Dhaka mayors and government officers concerned to take steps in 24 hours to eradicate and destroy Aedes mosquitos and take preventive measures to stop spreading of diseases like dengue and chikungunya.
The bench of Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice Md Shohrowardi passed the suo-moto rule.
The court also asked the respondents to show cause why their inaction in taking steps to prevent Aedes mosquitos and to stop the spread of dengue, chikungunya and similar diseases from affecting the citizens of Dhaka city would not be declared illegal.
The court also asked the respondents to explain why steps would not be taken against them for failing to take effective action for the prevention of the said diseases.
Mayors of Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation, chief executive officers of Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation, health secretary, LGRD secretary, and the director general of health services are made respondents.
